A Thriller That Won’t Let Go

Gino Cataldi is a man hanging on by a thread. Cancer took his wife, and drugs put his son in rehab. All he has left is his badge.

When a teenage girl is kidnapped it brings back nightmares from the worst case he ever worked—the one that tore his life to shreds and forced him out of Philadelphia.

Gino doesn't want this case but he knows he has to take it. Not just to save the girl, but to earn redemption for what went wrong in Philly.

What do you do when you’ve lost everything?

  • Gino—a cop who pushes the limits of the law…

  • Lonny—a good man struggling to feed his family…

  • Scott—a biotech executive who has everything a man could want…

  • A band of ruthless kidnappers…

They all come together in a thriller you won’t be able to forget.

Everyone has decisions to make. This one could cost Gino his badge—and a young girl her life.

Necessary Decisions A Gino Cataldi Mystery eBook Giacomo Giammatteo

I see that many reviewers give this book more stars than I do. I think maybe I would have given more stars if this wasn't the first book of this apparent series that I picked up, and I knew more about the character. I don't remember why I picked this book up, except I was looking for something new. This came recommended because of some other books I had lately read. The writing is really pretty good, and the premise of the case was fine. I guessed ahead of time who had arranged the kidnapping in the story and I had a good idea why, but that didn't bother me. I like mysteries more than hard-boiled cop stories which this was. And when I say 'hard-boiled' I do mean there is a lot of bad language in this book, and some sexual content that was less my style than usual. I understand the 'why' for both of these in this type of book...I just don't prefer to read this style of book all the time. I do like to be warned ahead of time if a book has this type of content though.

Anyone who likes this type of book will enjoy to plotting and the characters. I take it the characters are more developed from earlier books, because I really didn't see a lot of character development in this one. But I'm sure other readers who enjoy books by this author will enjoy this one. I think maybe I might go back and read the first in the series...maybe I will find it more enjoyable than I did this particular book.

Necessary Decisions A Gino Cataldi Mystery eBook Giacomo Giammatteo Reviews

I read a lot of books but seldom post reviews. This is the exception. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book with characters that popped and were brought to life by a gifted craftsman of the art of words. There was plenty of suspense and depth of plot to keep the story moving at a brisk pace without getting overly bogged down in petty minor details. Mr. Guarantor has woven a tale that I highly recommend.
There is nothing like a good "whodunit" and this is one of the best. Giammatteo writes like he has been there-done that. He captivates us with his storytelling, weaving plots and sub-plots so seamlessly that you get lost in the narrative and are mentally standing in the line of fire.

All the twists and turns that you expect from a crime/mystery novel are there along with a few you might not expect. Gino is trying desperately to see that this case ends with a more favorable result than some of his past ones. Haunted by his failures he pours everything in him into finding a little girl that has been kidnapped. What he is faced with is a family dynamic that takes dysfunctional to a whole other level.

The bad guys, at times, seem like they have it made. They are always one step ahead of the police and investigators. This is not one that you will be able to predict the conclusion by the end of chapter three (which I do all the time). You will be on the edge of your seat until the very end. Would I recommend this book? Well, yeah, it is one heck of a great read!!!
Necessary Decisions is the first book in Giacomo Giammatteo’s exciting Gino Cataldi Mystery Series. This riveting story takes place in Houston, Texas, where several break-ins and a kidnapping case have the Houston Police Department scrambling to bring the responsible criminals and their mastermind leader to justice.

Detective Gino Cataldi cringed at the thought of having to investigate another kidnapping case. The last one he was involved with still weighed heavily on his heart. The department had considered the case a success, but he did not. By the time the kidnapped girls were rescued, they had already been beaten and raped and had very little desire to live left. How could Captain Cooper even think of dropping another kidnapping case into his lap? But when Detective Gino Cataldi met the victim’s mother, Lucia Hackett, he knew that he would do everything in his power to save her daughter, Jada.

Lucia Hackett reminded him of the woman he cherished and loved, but lost to cancer; his beautiful, sweet, wholesome wife, Mary. So Gino Cataldi did what a detective should never do; he promised Lucia Hackett that he would bring her kidnapped daughter home.

Necessary Decisions is a story about greed and desperation, making choices and facing consequences. In this book, Giacomo Giammatteo utilizes his unique ability to lull the reader into empathizing and caring for some of his criminal characters.

Necessary Decisions is a brilliantly crafted complex mystery that will keep the reader captivated and turning the pages until the very end. I highly recommend giving this book and every book written by Giacomo Giammatteo a read. He’s a gifted writer and an author not to be missed.
